Jan Gleiter has spent more than three decades as a writer and editor in the field of educational publishing, specializing for most of that time in assessment, although she also writes in the areas of literature and English language arts. As the Project Director of the Gates-MacGinitie Reading Tests and the Cognitive Abilities Tests, she mastered the art of test construction and learned the importance of validity in assessment. Jan also authored a successful middle-school vocabulary program, Words to Go, for grades 6, 7, and 8. She has written a series of biographies for the juvenile market and two mystery novels, one of which won the Malice Domestic award for "best first traditional mystery." Jan lives in Chicago. After many years of working for several of the biggest and best-known corporations in educational publishing, she is currently self-employed as an educational writer.
