D.W. Saur holds degrees from Emory and Henry College, East Tennessee State University, and the University of Southern Mississippi. In addition, Saur received his teaching certification from Roanoke College and is currently a middle school social studies teacher. Saur's first children's book, Metal Like Me, deals with bullying. Dark Days is Saur's fantasy debut and was written in part to give his students and other young adult readers a heroine that goes against traditional norms of young adult works. Saur is a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators.
