Sobti, Former Vice Chancellor Panjab University, Chandigarh & Currently Vice Chancellor, Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (Central University), Lucknow Is A Scientist, An Able Administratoranda Dynamic Institution Builder. Starting His Career As A Cytogeneticist, He Moved On To Explore The Developments In His Area Of Interest And Evaluated The Role Of Gene Polymorphisms & Their Expression In The Genesis Of Various Cancers, COPD, AIDS And Metabolic Syndrome. Currently He Is Involved In The Development Of Whole Organ By Tissue/Organ Culture Through Custom Designed Decellularization Protocol. He Has Demonstrated That The Regulation Of Stem Cell Character Under In Vitro Conditions Is A Function Of Morphological Assortment Of Solid Lipid Nanoparticles(SLNC)-An Observation That Has Marked Significance In The Field Of Stem Cell Research. Dr. Sobti, An Active Researcher, Is Also Steadfastly Committed To The Popularization Of Science In The Community Through Popular Lectures And Community Engagement Programs. Dr. Sobti, Deeply Influenced By The Philosophy Of Dr. Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar, Has Now Emerged As A Very Vocal Advocate And Meticulous Champion Of Social Transformation Of The Deprived/Under Privileged/Backward Classes Of The Society. He Is Constantly Endeavoring To Bring These Special Sections Of The Society Into The Main Stream And Works For Their Upliftment Both At The Professional And Personal Levels Through Active Community Engagement Programs. He Is A Fellow Of The Third World Academy Of Sciences, National Academy Of Sciences, Indian National Science Academy, National Academies Of Medical Sciences And Agricultural Sciences And Of The Canadian Academy Of Cardiovascular Diseases And Few Others. Dr. Sobti Is The Recipient Of Many Prestigious Awards Like, The INSA Young cientist Medal, UGC Career Award, Punjab Rattan Award, JC Bose Oration And Sriram Oration Awards, And The Life Time Achievement Awards Of The Punjab Academy Of Sciences, Zoological Society Of India, And The Environment Academy Of India, Besides Many Other Medals & Awards Of National And International Levels. Keeping In View His Contributions To Education, He Was Bestowed With One Of The Highest Civilian Awards PADMASHRI By The Govt. Of India In 2009.
