Growing up I hated reading. I went through school with a learning disability where the written word was confusing and difficult for me to comprehend. It wasn't until I was sitting in the back of my son's third-grade class listening to his teacher read that I found myself enthralled in a book. Later I asked her what she was reading; she went to the library and checked me out a copy of the book. I told her I hated reading and never read but she challenged me to read. "Just read the first chapter and if you don't like it we will find you something you do like. Reading should be enjoyable." I did read that book and several thousand after it. Having a disability had stolen the joy of literature from me, but with the advice of a third-grade teacher, I finally found the light. My hope for my readers is that my stories are able to take you away from the mundane everyday struggle and for a short time whisk you to faraway places where the only hindrance is how far your imagination can take you.
