Joyce Hopkirk has been an editor on Cosmopolitan, the Sun newspaper, the Sunday Times, the Daily Mirror and the magazines She and Chic. She has twice won the Magazine Editor of the Year Award. She is married to Bill Lear, an executive of De Beers; they have a daughter and a son.
