I was born and grew up in Ireland - the then-fraught city of Columbia's oak-grove Derry and (reflected in the novel) the calmer Donegal - and attended a peace-loving Quaker school, overlapping there with the actress Judi Dench. This background fostered my aspiration for spirituality and the mystical which run through my writing. - together with the sound of music and of beautiful resonant words .
