William D. Jones is Senior Lecturer in Welsh History at the School of History and Archaeology, Cardiff University. Born in 1957 in Llandeilo, west Wales, he gained his undergraduate degree and doctorate at University College, Cardiff. He is a specialist on nineteenth- and early twentieth- century Welsh emigration and the Welsh communities overseas, and also works on the social and industrial history of nineteenth- and early twentieth-century Wales. His more recent publications include B.L. Coombes (1999), co-authored with Chris Williams, and Welsh ReflectionsY Drych and America 1851-2001 (2001), co-authored with Aled Jones.
