Marianne Shapiro was a professor of Italian Studies at Brown University and taught previously at New York University and Yale University. She is the author of Women Earthly and Divine in the Comedy of Dante and coauthor, with Michael Shapiro, of Hierarchy and the Structure of Tropes.
