A former local government officer, Peter Johnson is a historian, journalist and photographer specialising in narrow gauge railways.
The Cambrian Railways - its origins and history is the seventh title he has contributed to the Oxford Publishing Company imprint since 2002. His book on the Welsh Highland Railway is now in its second edition and has sold more than 5,000 copies. They are researched from original sources, illustrated with a broad range of material, producing fresh insight in a readable style. He has also contributed many titles to the Ian Allan Publishing imprint.
As a journalist he has contributed a narrow gauge railway news column to Steam Railway magazine since 1995.
As a photographer his photographs illustrate both his columns and his books. He is also the Ffestiniog Railway Company's honorary official photographer.
