Book 1
Maddoc is a king with no power and no responsibilities. He enjoys his carefree life. Anwen is a princess who carries the weight of her kingdom on her shoulders. Recently left in shame by the one she loves for her cousin, she only wishes to spend her life helping to relieve the suffering of her people. When Maddoc is attacked outside of Anwen's palace, she saves his life and feels obligated to see him safely back to his kingdom.
They begin the long journey back to Maddoc's home. Anwen is sure she will experience nothing but frustration and boredom. Maddoc finds the princess intriguing and increasingly tempting. They find neither is what they first imagined and that Maddoc's life is in more danger than they realized. As they come closer and closer to his kingdom. Anwen wonders how she can ensure he is safe, and Maddoc wonders how he could ever let her go.
Book 2
King Maddoc has been hard at work trying to make Calumbria the kingdom he envisions. Princess Anwen has been riding all over her kingdom using her newly fully released Gift to heal people and the land. They have kept in contact through letters, but both are desperate to see each other again. At the Winter Festival in the king’s village of Quinlan, they meet again. Though they have promised their mothers they would seek others as potential partners, they cannot keep away from each other. They spend each night together, and find ways to sneak away at times during their days.
It becomes very clear to both of them that they must marry. There is much in their way including Maddoc’s uncle and Anwen’s former lover who both wish to have Anwen for themselves. A princess from a powerful kingdom is determined to marry Maddoc. Anwen is constantly faced with doubts that she can be the queen Maddoc needs and still see to her own kingdom. Besides these threats to their love, there is also physical dangers of which neither are aware. They will have to depend on each other and their shared love to save each other and their kingdoms.
Book 3
After almost losing her, Maddoc is desperate to keep Anwen away from those who would tear them apart. All he wants is a quiet life with the woman he loves. Anwen convinces him they owe it to their people to see to the safety of their kingdoms. She spends her time recovering and helping Maddoc learn how to use his newly released Gift. Once healed and secure in their love, Maddoc and Anwen travel around their kingdoms, gaining support to take their crowns back.
They know they will face danger and uncertainty. Using their Gifts, they will have to depend on each other and those they trust to save the land from those who would see it destroyed for power. In the end, their greatest wish is to live their lives together in a time of peace and prosperity for all the people in the land.
