This text is designed for pupils studying GCSE examinations. While seeking to inform, the book emphasizes activity-based learning, with exercises on text and photograph analysis and also on "learning by thinking". There are suggestions for coursework aiming to offer alternatives to the structured question approach and each chapter is related to the assessment objectives for GCSE and contains a list of other resources which should be available in the classroom for personal research on the part of pupils. Other titles in the "Macmillan Studies in Religion" series are "Facing the Issues" and "The Gospel in the Making".
