Forbidden by her father to indulge in music in any way, a girl on the planet Pern runs away, taking shelter with the planet's fire lizards who, along with her music, open a new life for her.
I loved that this book gave a great introduction to the world of Pern. I also loved that I had just read the first book in the Pern series, so that this story made sense to me. :D If you had not read the previous books in other series, the introduction into this world is very comprehensive, so you would be ok starting with this one.
