The Winter King (Weathermages of Mystral, #1)

by C. L. Wilson

An epic new fantasy romance from New York Times and USA Today bestselling author C. L. Wilson

After three long years of war, starkly handsome Wynter Atrialan will have his vengeance on Summerlea's king by taking one of the man's beautiful, beloved daughters as his bride. But though peace is finally at hand, Wynter's battle with the Ice Heart, the dread power he embraced to avenge his brother's death, rages on.

Khamsin Coruscate, Princess of Summerlea and summoner of Storms, has spent her life exiled to the shadows of her father's palace. Reviled by her father, marriage to Wintercraig's icy king was supposed to be a terrible punishment, but instead offers Kham her first taste of freedom-and her first taste of overwhelming passion.

As fierce, indomitable Wynter weathers even Khamsin's wildest storms, surprising her with a tenderness she never expected, Kham wants more than Wynter's passion-she yearns for his love. But the power of the Ice Heart is growing, dangerous forces are gathering, and a devastating betrayal puts Khamsin and Wynter to the ultimate test.

Don't judge a book by it's cover is certainly true for this one. The cheesy front was what withheld me from reading, even though everyone I knew or followed said the same before reading it but was raving about it afterwards. Now I too am one of them, cause this story was amazeballs. I finished it, all those 500+ pages in almost one sitting. That's how strong this book got a hold of me. I even forgot to eat and could barely put it down to get some well needed sleep!

The start was a bit on the slow side, but once our two MC finally meet, the story really took off and me along with it. It features everything I ever wanted for a great read: likable characters, a strong female MC, humor, fantastic world building, chemistry that spat off the pages, a terrific story that keeps you entertained for hours on end and last but not least no female MC's that do stupid things in their naivety or well meaning. Okay there were one or two incidents that could be marked as such, but it fit so well with who Storm is that I immediately forgave her afterwards. It's just who she is and they were not dragged out afterwards.

So basically, The Winter King is a must read for every fantasy romance lover out there. Don't be like me, another idiot who did not pick it up because of the questionable cover. The inside is what matters and this book won't let you down for sue. It will keep you enthralled till you finish it and are left wanting more. So that's why you'll order the next book immediately and are impatiently waiting till it arrives... At least that's what I'm doing now!
