Palaeohydrology in Practice

by K.J. Gregory and etc.

Published 11 November 1987
"Palaeography in Practice" presents an interdisciplinary approach to palaeohydrological research, which is a comparatively new development in environmental research. The Severn and Wye basins of the UK are used as case studies to demonstrate how such research should be carried out. Topics covered include river channel changes and climatic and hydrological change. Reconstructions are used to show how prehistoric changes have influenced the development of today's landscape. The Severn basin is set in the European context and the interrelationships of various themes are discussed.

This volume surveys current knowledge of the structure and development of the Precambrian basement in the Carpathian and Balkan mountains of West-Central Europe. A complex picture is compiled using stratigraphy, tectonics, petrology, metamorphism, geochemistry and other geological techniques. The book will be invaluable to a variety of geologists, specialising in tectonics, the Precambrian, petrology, volcanology, metallogeny, palaeontology and geochronology.
