Imagine traveling on a multiple day journey through the wilderness. In the Canadian Rockies. In the cold. With a newborn and a man you had never met. . . Without a map or GPS, and on an unmarked route!
This Daring Journey chronicles Moriah’s journey back to her people after the death of her husband. This amazing French-Indian woman had a strength and determination not often seen. The story of her tragic birth was hinted at enough to give the sense of what had happened and yet it wasn’t explained. I appreciated that the author knew that she didn’t need to go into more details than she did.
Samuel, who we met in This Homeward Journey, was determined to help this strong, yet fragile woman on her journey. I loved his protective nature and the way that he fell so quickly and completely in love with Cherry, the newborn.
I really like the way Misty Beller gives such a sense of place in her books. The details of the surroundings, the frigid temperatures, and the perils of the journey seemed very real.
Despite the dangers of the journey and the developing romance, a few parts seemed to drag a little.
I recommend this for lovers of historical fiction who do not require high action or intrigue to keep them interested.
