Beyond the real estate business, there is a phenomena that exists everywhere on the planet except for the western world, that of building your own home with your own two hands. There is a subject that is sometimes called homesteading where you live out in the country doing a lot of your own stuff, basically self-sufficient, living off the land. I'm interested in alternative homes (log homes, straw homes, underground homes, etc.) and alternative energy away from the grid because I house a back-to-the-woods, self-sufficiency streak within me. If you've got some money, you can hire someone to build a house for you. You can either hire an architect, get a builder to build a home based on home plans you buy, get for free or design yourself or go to any of the many companies which offer custom homes. You can find house plans everywhere, particularly in the many home type magazines out there. Go to a periodical directory at the library, get a few of the magazines in the home magazines section
