The Hawker Hunter is a classic postwar aircraft, known to many as the most graceful jet fighter ever to leave the ground. The Hunter was one of Britain's export success stories and was purchased by no less than 19 countries worldwide. It still remains in service with at least two airforces - India and Zimbabwe. July 2001 saw the 50th anniversary of its maiden flight. This work covers the history of the formidable aircraft, from the early years of design development, to the action it saw in the glory days with the RAF, its deployment for service overseas, and unforgettable aerobatic displays with the Black Arrows and Blue Diamonds. Reminisces from Hunter pilots give a glimpse into what it was actually like to fly the aircraft, whilst a comprehensive section gives details of preserved examples in Britain and around the world.
