Intended as an introduction for anyone concerned with financial management, this book successfully tackles the subject of practical financial modelling and should appeal to managers, analysts, practitioners and students alike. It presents, within a structured framework, a collection of articles which cover all aspects of the subject, from an introduction to the basics of modelling - including examples of some of the models which have been created - to presentation of some model templates and modelling opportunities from which the reader may draw inspiration for model development. This updated text, which reflects recent developments in the subject area, maintains a practical perspective. New chapters describing experiences of modelling in a variety of organizations, and detailing the actual models produced have been incorporated, as well as new contributions of a review nature. Throughout, a sharper distinction has been made between the 'wood' and the 'trees' of modelling, and this should be especially useful in helping the novice to appreciate the core of each application described.
It is to be hoped that the contributors' accounts of practical modelling work will do something to dispel the remaining mystique which regrettably still surrounds the use of modelling methods in financial decision-making, and thereby open up the area to all whom it should concern.
