Before becoming a teacher, Alan D. M. Garner had a full military career, during which he was appointed an MBE for services to Sierra Leone. During this time, he worked in NI, across Africa and in the Balkans for both the UN and NATO. It was after retiring from the military that he became a teacher. Moving to the Middle East, he finished his career as a Vice Principal in Kuwait, and now lives in the East Midlands.
