SUbstance volume 8, entitled Revolution, is the next in the successful and well-received SUbstance programme of discipleship resources for 14 to 18s. Building on previous volumes, this resource will help the young people grow their faith and get to know God better through group Bible study and praying together. It contains ten Bible based resources, grouped into two modules. The first module (of six sessions) is called 'You meets world' and examines social and political issues that young people face. Covering such subjects as war and conflict, globalisation, politics and poverty, young people are challenged to discover what God has to say and reflect on what difference that should make to their lives now. The second module of four sessions focuses on the early life of David: his anointing as king by Samuel, being employed at Saul's court, fighting Goliath and showing mercy to Saul when he could have killed him. Here, young people encounter a man chosen by God, who strives to stay close to him through difficult times, wanting to honour God through his actions. Subjects covered include worship, God's calling and justice.
Each session is made up of a leaders' introduction, introductory activities, Bible exploration and response opportunities. There are photocopiable pages available in the book, together with multimedia resources online.
