I hate that I’m so numb and empty and disconnected from most of these people but even I can see worth in stupid little moments like these. These people aren’t even my family, but I can see their value and if I can see it in something this small, when I feel this bad, then—Then why didn’t he?

I must admit, after absolutely LOVING Cracked Up To Be and Some Girls Are, I found myself disappointed with Fall For Anything. I liked Eddie, mostly - Summers writes the most awesome teenage characters, who aren't soppy or anything like that and that continues with Eddie - and I loved Milo, Eddie's best friend, and I mostly liked the whole dad-suicide plot, because it's a rare thing to see in books. And if anyone can write a believable, emotional novel on suicide and its after-effects, it's Summers and while Fall For Anything was emotional and readable... I just felt a bit let down with the bulk of the plot.

Like most of the more balanced reviews, I found Culler Evans arrival and subsequent scenes uncomfortable. I understood why Eddie was drawn to him as he was her dead father's student, but I didn't for the life of me get why Eddie was drawn to him that way. It seemed convenient more than anything, but it also just seemed weird, too. The book was just TOO focused on Culler without telling us anything real about him. Everything we learn is basically nothing. So it didn't really make sense as to why Eddie was so attracted to him. There was no reason to it, from the attraction perspective, because we're not told anything and although I like an enigma as much as anyone, sometimes it's just too enigmatic.

The book was good, and it was emotional, but it was disappointed. I absolutely loved the Eddie/Milo scenes and the romantic in me would have loved to have delved into their relationship more. As best friends, as perhaps something more. There was hints of it, but they were just that. Hints. And there's no real resolution at the end. It sort of just... stops. And not in a good way, either. I want a sequel! Or an Epilogue. Or something. I like ambiguous endings sometimes, when it makes sense, when it works and although with this novel an ambiguous ending should work, it didn't because it seemed unfinished. I reached the end and I was like, "So that's it?" And it was, sadly. I'm looking forward to Summers' next novel, but Fall For Anything, as far as I'm concerned, doesn't come close to Cracked Up To Be and Some Girls Are.
