This text provides both standardized lab protocols for assessing anthropometric and physiological attributes in children and complete information on field assessments of paediatric fitness. A wide range of measurement techniques are described and critically evaluated. Parts I and II focus on physical and physiological assessment - anthropomentry, body composition, maturation, anaerobic performance, aerobic performance, muscular strength and endurance. Each chapter in these two parts introduces the measurement area, discusses both the significnace of collecting the data and the development characteristics of the measurement variable, and also reviews the tests and protocols used most often. Part III discusses measuring physical activity and critically analyzes the field tests and batteries that are used to test fitness levels in children. Batteries from the USA, Canada, New Zealand, and Europe are considered and evaluated for their validity and reliability. The book includes normative standards to allow researchers to compare their subjects with others.
